Irakles Sakellariou came to Germany at the age of 25 thanks to luck, coincidence and good friends, after working as a waiter and running a small bar in Greece.
In 2001, at the age of 26, he realized his long-held dream of opening his own restaurant – “Der Grieche in Farchet”. This charming restaurant, named after the small district of his new hometown of Wolfratshausen, is still a lively meeting place where guests can indulge in authentic Greek hospitality.
His parents, especially his mother, were always a great support – among other things, she brought with her the typical Greek recipes that continue to delight all guests to this day. Even after the death of his mother, these authentic recipes give the restaurant its distinctive atmosphere.
The “Greek restaurant with character”, as it is affectionately called by his friends – and thus almost all regular customers – also attracts new guests from far and wide to the somewhat hidden restaurant, which invites you to feel good and enjoy.
Since 2011, Irakles has been working together with his partner Anka, also affectionately known as “Anna”, to run the restaurant with passion.
After the big fire in 2022, which destroyed almost the entire restaurant, it looked for a long time as if “Der Grieche” would be history. But Irakles decided to stay. With immense diligence and great willpower, Irakles restored his life’s dream more beautifully than before and opened in December 2024 after two hard years.
When spring, summer and fall, when the tables and chairs are once again set under the shady chestnut trees, Mr. Irakles will greet his guests warmly with “Hello, my friend!”. For Mr. Irakles and his team, their guests are much more than just customers.
